Trust in the Beloved

There are no obstacles which our Savior’s love cannot overcome, and that to him, mountains of difficulty are as easy as an asphalt road.

Hannah Hurnard, Hinds’ Feet on High Places

The above quote was the response an Arab nurse in Palestine gave to Hannah Hurnard when she was asked about her understanding of this verse in Song of Solomon:

Listen! My beloved! Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills.

Song of Solomon 2:8 (NIV)

If you have never read Hinds’ Feet on High Places, you should, as it’s a beautiful call to rest in Christ.

The one who trusts in Christ as their beloved shepherd, can stand firm and remain confident in the face of any trial. As she said, any obstacle can be overcome by the love of our Savior.

Our feet get tired and may slip on the rocky roads, but when we place our trust in Christ, he makes those same feet as the hinds’ feet. In him, we are able to stand firm despite our fears.

We see the greatest testimony to this reality in the lives of believers who face persecution. As they put their lives firmly in the hand of their Savior, whether it ends in life or death, their trust in the beloved shines.

What happened to Daniel and his friends?

“The God we serve is able to rescue us,” they said. “But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Daniel 3:17b-18

We see here the strength of the faith that holds the hand of the beloved no matter the cost.

Are you facing a trial today? Call out for all to hear: “Look, my beloved is coming, and he will see me through.”

Grace and Peace
