Enemy-occupied territory—that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage. When you go to church you are really listening-in to the secret wireless from our friends: that is why the enemy is so anxious to prevent us from going. He does it by playing on our conceit and laziness and intellectual snobbery.C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
Nothing can compare to the words of C. S. Lewis in helping us picture the importance of the Church and God’s Word in our life. We are facing a spiritual battle of supernatural proportions, and yet, most of us, myself included, are wandering aimlessly from day to day, clueless about what’s at stake.
I cannot speak for European believers, but I do know for American Christians, it has only perhaps been since the year 2020, that we have experienced even a slight awakening to the trouble we’re in. Most of us would make pretty poor spies for the cause of Christ! Not only do we fail to go to church and take advantage of good Bible teaching and Bible study, but we have so given into the lies of the world, we’re no longer recruitable material.
Paul knew what it would take for first-century and 21st-century Christians to survive when he wrote the believers in Ephesus:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.Ephesians 6:10-12 NIV
I pray you will join me in waking up to our need to do our part as saboteurs of the enemy’s plans. Turn over the arguments so easily accepted by others by speaking truth against the heresy. Infiltrate the world and spread it with good deeds done to the glory of God. Stand strong in the face of opposition and attack, so they will stand back in amazement at your loyalty to the True King.
We are living, my friend, in enemy-occupied territory! Don’t be captured by it but do your part to release those imprisoned by the lies by sharing the Truth.
Grace and Peace
