Focus on His Names

Who is this one whose birth we celebrate? He’s so much more than just a mere babe in the manger.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.*

He came as a child, but he is the freely offered son.

The weight of ruling is on his shoulders, as he is given authority over all.

The Wonderful Counselor — he guides us in ways we can never imagine, enabling us to understand the wisdom of his Word and live with integrity and purpose.

He is Mighty God — omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient.

One with God in Trinity, he too is Everlasting Father, the Alpha and Omega.

IMG_5553Able to bring complete justice and mercy through the power of his sacrifice on the cross, Jesus is the Prince of Peace, restoring man to God, as he wipes away our sin.

What names of Jesus speak to you the most during the Christmas season? Are they among these found in the prophecy of Isaiah, or somewhere else in scripture?

Share them with me. Share them with others. Post them in your home or in your car. Put them in your pocket, to look at throughout each day.

May Emmanuel be in your heart and mind all through these days, giving you even more reason to worship and celebrate Christmas, like Simeon, on the day he saw the child:

“For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.”*

Grace and Peace
