The Case You Make

Luke tells us in the book of Acts that the high priest and religious leaders were rather surprised in what they found in the followers of Jesus:

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Acts 4:13 (NIV)

God’s strategy was amazing. He knew the only way the world would come to believe in Christ and find relationship with him would be to work through otherwise ordinary people. Notice he did nothing through kings, rulers, the rich, or the famous. Instead, he chose some fishermen, a tax collector, a religious zealot, and other nobodies and outcasts to change the world.

I love this question by Vince Vitale:

“Is your life an argument for God’s existence?”

Jesus Among Secular Gods

God so radically changed these unschooled, ordinary men, that those around them could not help but recognize they had been with Jesus. If you were raised in the church, maybe your life doesn’t look much different pre- and post-faith, but your attitude should; your face should show it, as well as your actions.

What about your courage? What does it say about God’s work in your life? Does he enable you to be at peace when the world around you crumbles? Does he help you to keep going in the midst of a pandemic? Does he help you to take a stand when no one else will?

Search your heart today and see whether you follow God or the crowd.

Does your life give evidence to God’s existence? What would people say?
